Schafer Condon Carter acquires talents of creatives Pitzel and Hebson of Romani Bros.

Romani Bros., a small but mighty ad agency run by partners Bernie Pitzel and Denny Hebson since 2003, was acquired by Schafer Condon Carter, a privately held, independent mid-sized local agency.

Pitzel and Hebson become creative directors, along with SCC’s CDs Suzanne Martineau and Ron Sone. Romani art director Christen Young also moved to SCC.

The acquisition comes as SCC enters its 20th year of consecutive growth as a integrated agency.

SCC agency co-founder Mark Schafer dies suddenly at 58

A memorial service was held Monday for Mark Schafer, co-founder and chairman emeritus of Schafer Condon Carter, who died Thursday of a heart attack at age 58

Mr. Schafer had retired from the agency in 2014 and he and his wife, Katie, had purchased a farm near Mauston, Wisconsin, where they were living at the time of his death.

Mr. Schafer was called by the agency “An exceptional advertising and marketing leader, he was also a kind, calm and rock-solid individual who inspired colleagues and clients alike.”

SCC’s new MAKE274 studio is dedicated to social media

Schafer Condon Carter’s (SCC) officially launched its “ala carte content creation studio,” MAKE247, offering video, animation, motion graphics and photography to brands that seek specialized multi-platform, social media content.

“The explosive need for brand content is here to stay and we have an incredible amount of talent and resources that have been doing killer work for our AOR clients,” says SCC co-founder Tim Condon.

SCC’s PSA campaign reminds about disaster preparation

SEPTEMBER IS NATIONAL PREPAREDNESS MONTH and it kicked off with Schafer Condon Carter (SCC), The Ad Council and FEMA’s Ready Campaign of PSAs and online videos that help families to be prepared before emergencies like earthquakes, tornadoes and hurricanes occur.

This is the second year SCC has been involved with the Ready Campaign, advancing its 2015-produced 30-second “Don’t Wait Communicate” spot from traditional media to social media outlets.

Cubs’ rising stars featured in 2016 campaign from SCC

The Chicago Cubs’ 2016 ad campaign, “Kids. They Grow Up Fast,” created by agency Schafer Condon Carter for the fourth season, was designed to help fans get to know the team’s rising young star players, in charming 30-second spots, billboards, social media, radio and out-of-home. The spots end with a repeat of 2015’s “Let’s Go” tagline.

SCC’s Rotary Club spot is ‘world’s biggest commercial’

The world’s biggest commercial, produced by Schafer Condon Carter for Rotary Club International, featuring 120,000 on-camera images from every corner of the earth and running for 8 to 10 hours, has a more important claim to fame.

It is the impending triumph in a battle against polio that Rotary has waged since 1985.

SCC’s ‘world’s biggest spot’ not an idle boast

It certainly cannot claim to be the world’s largest ad agency.  Or even the largest in Chicago.  But no matter.  Schafer Condon Carter/Chicago can now boast of having had a hand in creating the “world’s biggest commercial.”

We put the claim in quotes, of course, because it is a boast that has nothing to do with the commercial in question being the longest.  The most expensive.  Or the most talked-about — though one could argue it certainly deserves to be.

Cubs hit a homer by naming local SCC their agency

Everyone knows s**t happens in the ad biz.  Sure.  But every now and then good stuff does too  And sometimes, when the stars are really aligned, several really good things happen at an ad agency at once that pull it off the sidelines and position it center stage.

That is exactly what seems to have happened at Schafer Condon Carter, one of Chicago’s mid-sized shops that had been plugging along (in a good way) for as long as we can remember.

Pitzel is Jacobs Agency’s new ‘creative in residence’

Bernie Pitzel has made a move.  Yes, word will go out today that Pitzel — a true veteran of the Chicago ad scene — has changed his work address to the Jacobs Agency/Chicago, where he will have the VERY Pitzelian title of “creative in residence.”

That, of course, is a new position, and Pitzel will now work alongside the agency’s executive creative director Flora Caputo.

Pitzel has moved to the Jacobs shop from Schafer Condon Carter, where he was a top creative presence for some three years.

SCC “Carols for Kids,” then moves into own building

Schafer Condon Carter’s entire staff of 75, along with some clients, friends and busy “Christmas elves,” will share their holiday spirit in song Thursday, Dec. 15, when they pile into two open air Chicago Trolley buses and sing their “Carols for Kids” from their West Loop office to Pioneer Court on Michigan Ave.

Evaluating the odds of five Lottery account finalists

We now know which five ad agencies (all in Chicago) have a shot at nabbing the Illinois Lottery account, with the winner expected to be announced in late January.

Those five shops — DDB, DraftFCB, Element 79, Downtown Partners and Young & Rubicam — were tapped to move on from a group of 13 shops that initially submitted proposals a week ago.

For the record, the eight shops that did not make the initial cut are: Euro RSCG/Chicago: Schafer Condon Carter/Chicago; Olson; Gertrude; Blue Chip; Burrell; RPM Advertising and Corn Fed Advertising.
