Chicago-based JShip, a new online shipping service, has launched its first marketing campaign, featuring a new spot and social content directed by Tyler Jay, Commercial Director and Principle at Chicago-based Tandem, Inc.
JShip’s agency of record, Detroit/San Diego-based D/CAL selected Tandem to execute their script and began collaborating with Jay in late 2020. “It was one of funniest scripts I’ve read in awhile, so there was instant enthusiasm,” said Tyler Jay.
With a tight timeline and budget, D/CAL leaned on Tandem to ensure that the comedy felt real and natural. “With an increase in online shopping and hobbies, we’ve all become shippers and it can be frustrating. We wanted to tell a story that everyone can relate to,” said Adam Wilson, Founder at D/CAL. JShip’s website allows customers to compare prices from various carriers, print labels, and even schedule pickups to avoid a trip to a shipping store.
Tandem helped maximize production while safely overcoming the challenges of covid. Ryan Maconochie, Founder at D/CAL added, “A lot needed to happen in a single day, and Tyler’s command of every detail and his enthusiasm made sure we captured everything and then some. I can’t say enough about his eye for talent and getting the best performances out of them.”
The shoot took place in two locations in the Chicago area in mid-January, with four OCPs and a handful of extras. In a highly collaborative workflow, D/CAL handled offline editorial of the project, with Tandem tapping Noisefloor for the VO record and sound design, and Paul Kreuter for the final color grade and online finish.
