The classic Neapolitan favorite, “Funiculi, Funicula” is not what you’d expect to hear on a holiday campaign, but it’s remarkably effective as the musical sound track for Chicago-based Groupon’s first holiday campaign via agency O’Keefe Reinhard & Paul (OKRP).
The idea for using the rollicking song came from agency CCO Matt Reinhard, the campaign’s creative leader. (The song was written in 1880 to commemorate the opening of the first funicular — cable railroad — on Mt. Vesuvius).
A major moment of reckoning is coming for Chicago’s very own tech darling (at least for now). Yes, we refer to Groupon, the online discount coupon company founded by former Northwestern University music student Andrew Mason.
Groupon is about to go public with its first stock offering on Nov. 4.
That IPO is happening, however, as serious questions about the discount coupon company and its long-term viability loom larger with each passing day.

SAG-AFTRA members’ home-away-from-home, its place to work, record, rehearse, audition and connect — the 15-year old Kaufherr Members Resource Center (KMRC) — has reopened after a month of updating and renovation.
The renovation covered the installation of a new, 6×8-ft. sound recording booth, from Whisper Room Sound Booths, and the upgraded Fern Persons’ 10×15-ft. video suite, with all-new lighting, camera and backdrops for members to use to market their talents and enhance their skills.
The talent union membership is estimated at more than 5,000.
SEPTEMBER IS NATIONAL PREPAREDNESS MONTH and it kicked off with Schafer Condon Carter (SCC), The Ad Council and FEMA’s Ready Campaign of PSAs and online videos that help families to be prepared before emergencies like earthquakes, tornadoes and hurricanes occur.
