McDonald’s seeks to trim fat from agencies

Well the sauce is going to get a little less special for some of McDonald’s regional agencies.

According to Ad Age and Agency Spy reports, as well as confirmed by a Los Angeles creative recruiter, the Chicago-based fast food giant is looking to consolidate more of its advertising at We Are Unlimited, the dedicated Omnicom agency.

This will be accomplished by greatly reducing the number of creative agencies handling marketing for cooperative franchise groups that operate throughout the United States.

McDonald’s ends four-decade run with Olympics

There will be no more gold…en arches for the Olympics as the fast food giant, effective immediately, has mutually parted ways with the IOC.

In a surprise move, McDonald’s Corp (Chicago agencies: We Are Unlimited and Burrell Communications) severed its 41-year-old alliance three years early. In a joint statement delivered June 16, the two organizations severed ties as the fast food giant continues to re-evaluate and focus on its core business. This, along with rising Olympic sponsorship costs and declining TV ratings, made for a combo platter of reasons for the separation.

McDonald’s new agency debuts rappin’ Big Mac campaign

McDONALD’S FIRST WORK from its new agency, We are Unlimited Chicago, is a 60-second rap spot, “There’s a Big Mac for That.” 

The original composition, with a drum marching band, is the backdrop for short scenes of consumers enjoying a Big Mac in their three new sizes: Regular, Grand Mac and Mac Jr.

Digital and data to drive McDonald’s new DDB agency

The bitter rivalry between DDB vs. Burnett. Publicis vs. Omnicom. Keith vs. Leo, for the billion dollar prize, brought to us by McDonald’s, with a cast of bleary-eyed creatives caught in between, has ended.

The winner, as we all know, is Omnicom and DDB, meaning for the first time in 35 years everything on the menu is going to be served up by one yet-to-be-created agency.

This wouldn’t be the first time DDB started an agency for a single client, having successfully launched Element 79 in 2001 for Quaker Oats.

Airing throughout NBC’s 2016 Rio Olympics coverage is McDonald’s new 60-second “better” Chicken McNugget spot, promoting the fast food chain’s decision to remove all artificial preserves from its Chicken McNuggets.

In the split screen depiction, a young boy (Zachary Rifkin)in the left screen growing up in the ‘80s interacts with a young girl (Echo Campbell) of the in present on the right screen, set to a cover of Cyndi Lauper’s “Time After Time,” sung by Iron and Wine.

McDonald’s new Loop HQ builds on historic film site

What was once a sprawling 88,000-sq. ft. building, with a storied film history at 1058 W. Washington, will become McDonald’s massive 608,000-sq. ft. Chicago headquarters, when the new construction is completed by spring 2018 at an estimated cost of $250 million.

The Chicago Plan Commission unanimously approved the developers’ request to increase the site’s density. The City Council’s stamp of approval is required to finalize the deal, according to Crain’s Chicago Business.
