Taylor Swift boosts ratings for Chiefs’ drubbing of Bears

The Bears lost 41-10 at the hands of the Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs. However, the real winners were Fox and Taylor Swift fans. Swift has proven once again that her star power knows no bounds.

The music sensation attended the Kansas City Chiefs’ game against the Chicago Bears on Sunday, and her presence at the stadium sent shockwaves through the world of sports and entertainment. While the game itself may not have been the most competitive, Swift’s appearance helped drive a significant uptick in ratings, particularly among certain demographics.

Fox’s late afternoon NFL broadcast on Sunday drew considerable attention thanks to the singer She was spotted in a suite alongside the family of Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, with whom she’s rumored to be dating. Fox’s cameras didn’t miss a beat, repeatedly cutting to Swift in the stands during the game.

Although the game turned into a one-sided affair (with the Chiefs leading 34-0 at halftime), Swift’s star power alone couldn’t surpass the viewership numbers from the same week the previous year. Fox’s telecast averaged 24.32 million viewers, making it the most-watched program of the weekend.

However, it was down by approximately 8 percent from the 26.4 million viewers who tuned in for the network’s game of the week in the prior year. Similar declines were observed among adults aged 18-49 and adults aged 25-54, with a slightly smaller drop of 5 percent in adults aged 18-34.

Nevertheless, it remained the top broadcast of the week across these demographics, including women of all ages.

Fox Sports even acknowledged Swift’s attendance at the game in its press release, stating, “America’s Game of the Week swiftly scores the most-watched telecast of the week on any network.” The subtle nod to Swift’s song Afterglow from her 2019 album Lover didn’t go unnoticed by fans.

NBC’s Sunday Night Football continued its dominance, averaging 19.21 million viewers, an increase of approximately 8 percent from the previous year. Meanwhile, CBS’ rebroadcast of Yellowstone delivered respectable numbers for the second consecutive week, although not quite at the level of the NFL-boosted ratings from September 17. Two season one episodes averaged 4.77 million viewers.

Taylor Swift’s cameo at the Chiefs vs. Bears game undoubtedly added a dash of glamour and intrigue to the event, giving fans a unique reason to tune in. Even with a lopsided game, Swift’s star power continues to shine brightly in the world of entertainment and beyond.
