VSA Partners has named May Shek Associate Partner, Head of Strategy, adding an experienced strategist with more than 18 years of work across brand, campaign and innovation strategy.

Shek, who is based in VSA’s New York office, joins the Chicago-headquartered brand strategy and creative agency after serving as founder and CEO of Boundless, a consulting firm focused on helping mission-driven organizations turn strategy into action.

Her career has spanned New York and Hong Kong, with work across brand architecture, marketing strategy and product innovation for clients in financial services, technology and healthcare.

“May has spent her career solving complex problems in brand architecture, positioning and campaign strategy,” said VSA CEO Anne-Marie Rosser. “We’ve worked alongside her for years in a contractor capacity and are thrilled to have her join VSA as our new head of strategy.”

Rosser added that Shek’s ability to move across brand, creative and campaign strategy will help sharpen the agency’s approach as it works to build brands that break through.

Shek said the role brings together the parts of strategy she values most, including solving difficult problems, building teams and helping organizations create meaningful change.

“I’ve always believed good strategy is equal parts humanity and rigor,” Shek said. “Getting to do that alongside people I already like and respect is kind of the dream.”

Outside the agency, Shek serves as an adjunct professor at Pratt Institute, where she teaches transformation design. She is also part of the New York leadership team for Women in Innovation, a nonprofit focused on advancing women as leaders and changemakers in innovation.

Shek joined VSA in early August.
