Filmed on location in Chicago last summer, with interiors filmed at the Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta, the thriller Mea Culpa is now streaming on Netflix.

Perry, who is no stranger to Chicago, often speaks fondly of his relationship with our town and said he felt it was the perfect backdrop for Mea Culpa.

“I felt like Chicago was the right backdrop because the city is beautiful, it’s mysterious, it could be dangerous and sexy, and I think that it was also a character in the movie. It gives every kind of feeling that I needed to paint this picture and this tableau.”

Written, directed, and produced by Tyler Perry, the film stars Kelly Rowland and Trevante Rhodes. Mea Culpa delves into the narrative of a defense attorney who, in the hopes of becoming partner, accepts the case of an artist suspected of killing his girlfriend.

Synopsis on Netflix: A criminal defense attorney (Kelly Rowland) agrees to defend a seductive artist (Trevante Rhodes) accused of murdering his girlfriend. But when desire takes hold, her big case takes a dangerous turn.

Netflix unveiled the inaugural trailer and a sneak peek image for Perry’s latest crime thriller Mea Culpa, which premiered for streaming on February 23rd.

Netflix organized a grand theatrical premiere at The Paris Theater in New York, with a star-studded event. Beyoncé, Jay-Z, Mariah Carey, Michelle Williams, Sherri Shepherd, and more graced the event alongside Perry and the film’s leads, Kelly Rowland and Trevante Rhodes, for an exclusive screening of the movie.

This venture marks Perry’s fifth collaboration with Netflix. Following the film’s announcement early last year, it was revealed that Tyler Perry had secured a new, multi-year first-look deal with Netflix, promising to write, direct, and produce additional features for the platform.
