In an announcement on Tuesday morning, the 29th annual Critics Choice Awards unveiled their television nominations, with Apple TV+ series The Morning Show and HBO’s Succession taking the lead. Chicago-made series The Bear earned four.
Justified: City Primeval also earned acting nominations for Timothy Olyphant and Aunjanue Ellis.
The nominations will pit the 2-year-old series against Abbott Elementary, Barry, The Bear, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Poker Face, Reservation Dogs, Shrinking, and What We Do in the Shadows.
The critically acclaimed show, created by Christopher Storer, has captured the hearts of viewers with its unique behind-the-scenes narrative revolving around a restaurant and its dedicated staff.
The first season of The Bear earned an impressive 13 Emmy nominations, spanning various categories, including Outstanding Comedy Series and recognition for its stars, such as Jeremy Allen White, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Ayo Edebiri, and Jon Bernthal.
The series has also garnered accolades such as AFI TV Program of the Year, a WGA Award, PGA Award, Film Independent Spirit Award, American Cinema Editors Award, and ACE Eddie Award. Jeremy Allen White, known for his role in Shameless, has already claimed prestigious awards like the Golden Globe, SAG Award, and Critics Choice prize for his exceptional performance.
This year the nominations include: Best Comedy and acting nods for Ebon Moss-Bachrach and Edebiri.
Season two, which streamed in June, has garnered critical acclaim with a remarkable 99 percent rating among critics and an impressive 92 percent approval from viewers on Rotten Tomatoes. Among the remarkable episodes was the acting masterclass of episode 6 titled “Fishes.” It was an intense flashback of a Christmas dinner that featured Jamie Lee Curtis, Bob Odenkirk, Oliver Platt, Jon Bernthal and White.
Will The Bear claw its way into the hearts of voters the way it did last year.

Film categories for the Critics Choice Awards will be announced on Wednesday, December 13, building anticipation for a celebration of the best in entertainment across both mediums.
The Critics Choice Awards, recognizing excellence in television and film, are scheduled to take place on Sunday, January 14, with the ceremony hosted by Chelsea Handler. The event will be broadcast on The CW.
