Things are heating up on Chicago Fire with the addition of new firefighter, Rome Flynn playing Jake Gibson, an ex-boxer with a troubled past.
The Chicago-born actor appeared in the second episode of Season 12, titled Call Me McHolland. Confident and fearless, he performs a heroic deed that gets the attention everyone on Truck 51.
In December, Flynn dropped subtle hints about his casting. He teased followers with a snapshot on his Instagram Stories, featuring a firefighter jacket hung over a chair labeled “Chicago” and “Gibson,” hinting at his character’s name. A month later, he created a TikTok sensation by sharing a video of a production team member assisting him in donning his firefighter gear.
His new role on the series has special significance for Flynn, as it marks a return to his hometown of Chicago. Flynn, also has a deep passion for basketball and music, and has shared several of his songs on his YouTube channel. His presence on TikTok has garnered him a substantial following, exceeding 2 million followers.
Flynn launched his career on the soap opera The Bold and the Beautiful, achieving a significant milestone in 2018 by winning the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Younger Actor in a Drama Series. His historic win as the first Afro-Latino Daytime Emmy winner resonates deeply with him, serving as both a humbling and motivating experience.
He quickly broke into primetime with roles on How to Get Away With Murder, Grey’s Anatomy, and the streaming series Dear White People and Raising Dion. In March 2023, he told Latina.com that his career goal is to play a Marvel character.
