“Doritos vs Mountain Dew” tops the Reel Chicago list

This year, the commercials were the best part of the Super Bowl for everyone who doesn’t live in Boston or Philadelphia.

In keeping with the couch potato, post-game, armchair tradition, The Reel Chicago team has assembled a list of our most and least favorite spots. Because nothing says great American tradition quite like laundry detergent, snack foods, and beer.

FAVORITES

Doritos Blaze v Mountain Dew

If you have ever had the urge to consider what Morgan Freeman would sound like as Missy Elliot or what Peter Dinklage would do with the voice of Busta Rhymes, wonder no longer. This spot resonated with us for its energy, creativity and of course music. Can’t go wrong with God and Tyrion.

Amazon “Alexa Loses Her Voice”

Humor dominated the game unlike the Patriots. Featuring an inspired array of celebrities from Cardi B to Gordon Ramsay, this was an inspired idea of what would happen if Alexa called in sick. It’s Amazon’s show now, and we’re just guest-starrint.

M&m’s Danny Devito “Human”

Danny DeVito as the Red M&M, turned human, walks around asking unsuspecting people to eat him. Need I say more why this is on our list?

Toyota “Good Odds”

Elegant, touching and real. Good job.

Tide “It’s a Tide Ad”

Ranked as the top commercial(s) according to USA Today and Ad Age, it’s easy to see why. Featuring Stranger Things star David Harbour with the Old Spice Dude and the Most Interesting Man in the World, it briefly made us forget about that confusing and deadly Tide-Pod-eating trend.

Least Favorite

Dodge Ram “Built to Serve”

Using Martin Luther King to sell a Dodge Ram? Tying the word serving to anyone Black? Hello? Black? Serving? WTF?

Bud Light, “The Bud Knight”

We miss the days when DDB Chicago had this. Dilly Dilly? Silly Silly!

Diet Coke Groove

No. Just no.

Pepsi “This is the Pepsi”

This just felt dated and tired.

T-Mobile “#Littleones”

Meh.
