Optimus is bringing some extra crunch to game day. The Chicago post house handled editorial, audio, animation, and finishing on General Mills’ new “Fandemonium” campaign, starring Shaquille O’Neal and celebrating some of the company’s most devoted cereal fans.
Created with agency BB & Co, the campaign supports General Mills’ first-ever Biggest Fan Contest, built around Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Lucky Charms, Reese’s Puffs and Honey Nut Cheerios.
At the center of the campaign is Shaq, whose larger-than-life persona turns cereal fandom into a full-blown competition.
“I have been eating cereal my whole life, and I’m still just as excited about it now as I was when I was young,” O’Neal said. “Lucky Charms has always been a favorite – those marshmallows never get old to me.”
The contest invites fans to upload photos or videos explaining why they deserve to be crowned General Mills’ biggest cereal fan. And the prizes are appropriately absurd.
The grand prize includes VIP tickets to Shaq’s Fun House, $1,000 in spending money, a $20,000 cash prize, and a meet-and-greet with O’Neal. Watch below:

Other cereal-themed prizes include a Lucky Charms “Pot of Gold” featuring two one-ounce gold bars, a Cinnamon Toast Crunch “Cinnafan Cave,” a Reese’s Puffs VIP package complete with a custom turntable and sound system, and a Honey Nut Cheerios bowl-inspired hot tub.
Yes, a cereal hot tub.
The campaign also includes limited-edition cereal packaging, custom tattoos inspired by each brand and promotional merchandise for early entrants.
Beginning September 1, Shaq appears alongside a lineup of cereal superfans in new work rolling out across television, streaming and social.
Optimus’ Tim Cahill edited the campaign, with Zach Scheitlin handling audio. Tyler Nelson served as creative director, Luis Mayorga as director of animation, Max Dawson as designer, and Glen Noren as director of finish.
Executive producers were Tracy Spera and Brian Hrastar, who also serves as managing director.
The campaign was produced by TPC Productions, with Brian Bennett serving as creative director and Rob Jaeger as executive producer.
The Biggest Fan Contest runs through December 31, with the top 100 entries eventually evaluated by cereal creator Ami Moyal of @cereallife. Shaq will select the grand prize winner, who will be announced on National Cereal Day, March 7, 2027.
For Optimus, “Fandemonium” is the latest example of Chicago post talent helping turn a national brand campaign into something loud, colorful, and just a little ridiculous.
Which, when Shaq and cereal are involved, feels about right.
