The Colonie has added assistant editor Lauryn Smith to its creative editorial roster, expanding the Chicago post house’s team with a young editor whose background blends technical training, project management and a strong interest in story-driven work.

Smith joins editors Bob Ackerman, Joe Clear and Addy Bieniarz on The Colonie’s editorial team.

“Lauryn not only brings an expertise in project management but also an editorial instinct that is immediately evident in everything she works on,” said partner and editor Bob Ackerman. “She has a strong technical foundation, a collaborative spirit, and a real feel for storytelling — exactly the kind of talent we want growing with us at The Colonie.”

A Houston native, Smith moved to Chicago to attend DePaul University, where she earned both a bachelor’s degree and a Master of Science in Editing, completing her graduate degree by age 23.

She brings five years of hands-on experience across a range of formats, with a particular interest in horror – a genre that calls for precise timing, restraint, and a keen sense of tension.

Throughout her career, Smith has worked alongside editors, directors, producers and post-production teams, developing a collaborative approach she now brings to The Colonie.

In addition to editorial, The Colonie offers motion design, color grading, VFX, finishing and project management.
