Motion Agency expands across Midwest

Motion

In a strategic move aimed at bolstering its presence and capabilities, Motion, Chicago’s preeminent certified female-owned and operated independent creative communications agency, has announced its acquisition of Cincinnati-based strategic communications agency Rick Miller Communications (RMC).

Effective from January 1, 2024, this acquisition is set to enhance Motion’s reach and industry prowess, marking a significant development in the realm of marketing and communications.

Rick Miller Communications is a well-established integrated marketing firm with roots dating back to its founding in 2009. Founded by Rick Miller, a professional with over three decades of experience in regional and global communications, RMC offers a comprehensive suite of services.

This includes public relations, content creation, issues management, executive counseling, and digital analytics. RMC’s client portfolio is both diverse and impressive, with notable names in the healthcare and consumer sectors, including Myriad Genetics, Bethesda Inc./bi3, Lindner Center of HOPE, and the Golden Lamb.

This strategic acquisition is emblematic of Motion’s remarkable transformation over its 17-year journey, evolving from a modest startup to a rapidly expanding, leading national marketing communications and creative agency. With a team of over 50 professionals specializing in key industry verticals like public relations, social media, content creation, and digital marketing, Motion continues to evolve and diversify its service offerings.

Kimberly Eberl, CEO and founder of Motion, reflects on the acquisition, “Creative curiosity and an unwavering commitment to our clients drive our agency, and RMC shares these principles. Cincinnati holds a special place in my heart as it’s my hometown, and I understand the abundant business opportunities the region offers. When the opportunity to bring RMC on board presented itself, it was a decision that made perfect sense.”

“Uniting with Motion significantly bolsters our present and future capabilities. We now gain access to proven traditional and digital marketing expertise, enriching our team’s depth. We believe this integrated suite of services is unprecedented in our region and brings substantial value to our clients,” added Rick Miller.

Mike Gehrig Takes Charge of Cincinnati Office

A seasoned professional with two decades of experience in the communications industry, Mike Gehrig assumes the role of Managing Director for Motion’s Cincinnati office. Hailing from Cincinnati, Gehrig has worked with both global and mid-sized communications firms and most recently served as a Partner at Finn Partners. Meanwhile, Rick Miller will continue in his current capacity until the year’s end, after which he will transition to a consultant role to support clients.

“The opportunity to collaborate with Kim, Rick, and this exceptional team to deliver impactful results for clients is the culmination of my entire career. The combination of RMC and Motion’s capabilities, in my opinion, enables us to provide a level of service previously unavailable in this region. I am enthusiastic about the promising future that lies ahead for this collective effort,” noted Gehrig.

The acquisition of Rick Miller Communications by Motion represents a significant leap in elevating the standards of expertise and creativity in marketing and communication across the Midwest and beyond.
