One of Chicago Fire‘s last remaining original firefighters is hanging up his turnout gear. After 14 seasons portraying beloved firefighter Joe Cruz, actor Joe Miñoso will leave NBC’s long-running hit during its upcoming 15th season. While Miñoso won’t disappear immediately, he is expected to appear in several early episodes to conclude Cruz’s storyline before exiting the series as a regular.

The Season 14 Cliffhanger
Cruz’s future was already in question after Season 14 concluded with a devastating explosion that trapped several members of Firehouse 51 inside a burning building.
The finale left Cruz, Kelly Severide, Mouch, Capp and Tony’s fates uncertain, creating one of the series’ biggest cliffhangers. However, reports indicate Cruz survives and returns for multiple episodes before receiving a proper sendoff rather than dying in the explosion.

Season 15 also welcomes Victor Teran as the show’s new showrunner following Andrea Newman’s exit and introduces Da’Vinchi as new firefighter Marcus Burke.
