Brooke Foley, Creative Director & Founder of Jayne Agency and Dr. Jen Welter, the first female coach of the NFL, announce the launch of Critter Fitter, a social, emotional and physical wellness platform for kids ages 0-10, written in response to families having to shelter in place during the Coronavirus pandemic.
The goal of the books is to explain the virus in kid-friendly terms, and ultimately empower young children with a comprehensive platform to express their feelings about difficult issues in a positive way.
“As the world looks up at the big problems we’re all grappling with, from the pandemic to racism to the spectrum of daily challenges, it’s important to remember this is a scary and uncertain time for kids. All of sudden, they’re stuck inside, can’t see family members, can’t hug people and can’t go to school. They need support to make sense of the shifting world around them. Critter Fitter was born out of the desire to help parents, grandparents and teachers facilitate tough conversations about COVID-19 and other pressing issues that kids may not know how to put into words themselves,” said Welter.
Combining Dr. Welter’s PhD in Psychology with Foley’s background as an award-winning creative director, Critter Fitter is the first and only book series that explains things like the Center for Disease Control’s Coronavirus safety guidelines in a kid-friendly way.
A colorful cast of “Critter” characters and simple high energy graphics and illustrations pair with powerful rhymes, making scary subjects such as viruses and masks easier to talk about. Lady Bug shows kids what they can do to share love when they can’t hug, while exploring concepts like six feet apart and protecting each other. The ANT Army empowers kids to join in the fight against the invisible enemy by wearing masks. And Bizzy Bee inspires bored quarantined kids to channel their pent-up energy with a 20-minute adventure with critters from all around.
Each book and corresponding activity pages address the range of wellness issues across physical, social and emotional barriers and conflicts.
To ensure speed to market in publishing the series, the co-authors bypassed traditional channels, instead turning to technology platform Caribu, a top video-calling storytelling app with users in 160+ countries around the world. The content is free to consumers on the Caribu app via the App Store or Google Play through the summer.
