Ferris Bueller spinoff film finds its director

Paramount Pictures is gearing up for the much-anticipated spinoff of the beloved 1980s classic, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, and they’ve enlisted David Katzenberg to helm the project. Titled Sam and Victor’s Day Off, the film promises to capture the essence of John Hughes’ iconic comedy while offering a fresh perspective.

Set to unfold over a single day, Sam and Victor’s Day Off will follow the misadventures of two valets who find themselves at the helm of the Ferrari belonging to Cameron’s father, a pivotal character from the original Ferris Bueller film portrayed by Alan Ruck.

David Katzenberg, known for his directorial work on ABC’s hit series The Goldbergs and his role as a producer on It, steps into the director’s chair for this exciting venture.

The production boasts a talented team of producers, including Paul Young of Argyle Media, along with Jon Hurwitz, Hayden Schlossberg, and Josh Heald. Dina Hillier serves as executive producer, while Stephen Cedars, Benji Kleiman, and Scott Yacyshyn join as associate producers.

News of the spinoff’s development first surfaced in 2022, and Katzenberg’s appointment as director was recently revealed by the newsletter The InSneider.

Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, written and directed by John Hughes, remains a timeless classic that follows the escapades of the titular character, portrayed by Matthew Broderick, as he embarks on an unforgettable day of adventure in Chicago alongside his friends Cameron and Sloane, played by Alan Ruck and Mia Sara, respectively.
