Deleted footage of Bill Murray in Ant-Man & The Wasp revealed

(Bill Murray had more to do in Quantumania)

Fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe were thrilled when it was announced that veteran actor Bill Murray would be joining the cast of Ant-Man & The Wasp: Quantamania. However, despite the initial plans and behind-the-scenes footage showcasing Krylar’s involvement in a space pursuit, a change of heart, and the rebellion against Kang the Conqueror, these scenes were ultimately left on the cutting room floor.

Recent revelations and behind-the-scenes footage have shed light on the extensive involvement Murray’s character would have had, indicating a missed opportunity for a more compelling storyline.

According to Ant-Man & The Wasp: Quantamania actress Katy O’Brien, who played Jentorra in the film, Murray’s character had a more significant role in the early stages of the film’s development. O’Brien disclosed in a recent interview with Inverse that Murray’s character, Krylar, was initially involved in a space pursuit and eventually ended up with Kang the Conqueror. This suggests a substantial presence in the narrative that didn’t make it to the final cut.

Marvel Studio’s Japanese Twitter page released nearly two minutes of behind-the-scenes footage, further supporting the notion of Murray’s expanded role. The clip showcases additional scenes featuring Murray’s character, indicating that more footage had been shot, but ultimately left out of the final version of the film. This peek into the deleted footage has left fans longing for the intriguing storyline that could have been.

One scene from the final cut of the film, depicting Kang the Conqueror, Scott Lang, Cassie Lang, and MODOK near the multiversal core, now reveals an alternate version through the behind-the-scenes footage.

In this version, Krylar stands over the edge of the multiversal core cliff first and pushes a mystery alien down into the core. The implications of this scene suggest a potential change of heart in Krylar and his involvement in the rebellion against Kang the Conqueror.

No official explanation has been provided regarding the decision to reduce Krylar’s role in the film. It’s possible that director Peyton Reed made a last-minute decision to trim the character’s storyline, which unfortunately resulted in Murray’s talents being underutilized. The omission of these scenes has left fans disappointed and longing for the more compelling narrative that Murray’s character could have brought to the film.
