Marvel series Ironheart lists Chicago actor Anji White in main cast

Anji White

Chicago’s own Anji White, is now listed as a cast member in the Marvel series Ironheart, playing the role of Ronnie, the mother of Riri Williams (Dominique Thorne.)

Ironheart, created by Chinaka Hodge, filmed on location in Chicago from October 24 through November 3, 2022 for the six-episode series that began filming in mid June 2022 at its Marvel home-base in Atlanta.

The Chicago portion of filming is expected to reveal Riri William’s backstory. The storyline follows the character Riri, a young black woman from the south side of Chicago. Riri is an MIT engineer with a genius IQ, who builds her own Iron Man armor. We got our first glimpse of the character Riri Williams in two Wakanda Forever trailers as she builds that first suit and gets her technology right.

You may recognize Anji White from her many appearances in Chicago-made films and TV series. She played the recurring role of Dibrell Smutny in Fargo, and roles in The Chi, Chicago Med, 4400, Empire, Chicago P.D., Rent Controlled, #Hashtag:The Series, Home For the Weekend, and the popular podcast series, Lake Song.

The Ironheart premiere date is yet unknown, after the recent disappointing news announcing that Disney applied the brakes on several Marvel releases as it redefines goals and shuffles their priorities in content.

Even though the long anticipated new Marvel spinoff series Ironheart was completed months ago, it is among the list of those that are unlikely to arrive in 2023 as the studio spreads out the release of its lineup.
