Chicago-made documentary The Murals screening at Loyola

The Loyola University Damen Cinema is holding a screening of The Murals the Chicago-made documentary about the Uptown Post Office Murals, the artist who created them, and the artists that inspired them.

Written and directed by Chicago filmmaker, TG Jamroz. The one hour documentary will screen followed by a short Q&A with the director. The screening is free to students and the public.

Synopsis: The Murals is a documentary about the New Deal era Uptown Post Office Murals in Chicago. How and why they were made by Henry Varnum Poor, why they feature Carl Sandburg and Louis Sullivan, and how they inspire people today.

Jamroz has written and directed several micro budget indie films, stage plays, music videos, Podcasts. His projects have been screened at film festivals, onstage, and online.

This one hour documentary is fresh from screening to sold out audiences in New York at the ROCA art Museum,andattheOldTownSchoolofFolkMusic.

Henry Varnum Poor’s handmade house is currently the subject of preservation efforts so that it can be turned into a museum. Henry Varnum Poor’s son Peter is interviewed, along with two of the nations authorities on Poor, Carolyn Hanna and Richard Porter. Chicago historian emeritus Tim Samuelson talks about Louis Sullivan, and Grammy winning musician Dan Zanes talks Carl Sandburg and more.

The original soundtrack is currently streaming on Spotify and other music services. This collection of songs includes original soundtrack music by Josh Boisvert. The other songs were collected by Carl Sandburg for The American Songbag.
