Cast and crew of Chicago P.D. step up to help their out-of-work PAs

The hardworking production assistants are probably not at the forefront of our thoughts when hard times hit the film community as in the current WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. But the Chicago P.D. cast and crew are like family and have not overlooked the financial burden these entry-level staff members are facing.

The PAs play a crucial role in TV and film productions, performing numerous behind the scenes tasks to ensure the smooth operation of the set and office. During this shutdown they are facing financial difficulties, especially when not covered by union benefits or strike assistance.

As reported in Deadline, a campaign to provide financial assistance to the PAs was initiated by Chicago P.D.‘s First AD Richard White and several notable figures from the show, including stars like Patrick John Flueger, Marina Squerciati, Amy Morton, and Tracy Spiridakos, along with executive producers, writers, and other crew members contributing to the cause. The campaign hopes to alleviate the financial burden these staff members are facing due to the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, which have significantly impacted TV and film production.

Richard White’s personal experience during the 2007-2008 WGA strike, when he was a DGA trainee, inspired him to support the PAs. He understands the challenges of facing work stoppages and financial difficulties in the entertainment industry, and he wants to ensure that the PAs don’t have to give up on their dreams due to unforeseen hardships.

The goal of the campaign is not only to provide financial relief to the PAs on Chicago P.D. but to also encourage other productions and industry professionals to step up and support their production staff during these challenging times. Many PAs are just starting their careers, and without assistance, they might be forced to leave the industry. The hope is that this initiative gains momentum and inspires similar acts of generosity across the entertainment community.
