Freestyle Digital Media, the digital film distribution arm of Byron Allen’s Allen Media Group, has finalized the acquisition of North American VOD rights for the rural coming-of-age action/thriller, Good Guy with a Gun. The film is slated for release today, February 20, 2024, across various digital HD internet, cable, and satellite platforms, as well as on DVD, through Freestyle Digital Media.

Good Guy with a Gun navigates the intense terrain of a small town’s gun culture as seen through the eyes of teenager Will, who relocates with his mother following his father’s violent demise. Written and directed by John Mossman, the film delves into Will’s turbulent journey, marked by new friendships and a deepening immersion into local gun culture, which strains his relationship with his mother and complicates his grief.

As Will confronts the dangerous consequences of his choices, the narrative challenges simplistic notions of good and bad, advocating for a nuanced dialogue on complex societal issues.

Filmed in Chicago last year, the film stars Beck Nolan and Tiffany Bedwell as the outsider son and mother duo who find themselves in the life-altering situations depicted in the story. They are joined by a supporting ensemble of characters. Watch the trailer below:

Mossman reflects on the film’s thematic depth, stating, “Families have always had their problems. Teenagers will rebel. Parents will split, loved ones will die. But as our fractured American family struggles, it finds itself heading down a path it may not recover from. With ‘Good Guy with a Gun,’ I set out to explore the danger, and at times the appeal, of going down this violent path.”

In addition to Nolan and Bedwell the ensemble cast features Jack Cain as well as David Stobbe, Ian Barford, Morgan P. Allen, Dan Waller, Liv Shine, John LaFlamboy, Joe Swanberg, Todd Wojcik, Jennifer Jelsema, Elizabeth Laidlaw, Skye Shrum, Kathy Scambiatterra, David Pasquesi, and Roger Welp.

Freestyle Digital Media orchestrated the acquisition of Good Guy with a Gun directly with Tiffany Boyle of Ramo Law PC, underscoring its commitment to delivering compelling and thought-provoking content to audiences.

As the release date approaches, Good Guy with a Gun promises to ignite conversations and provoke introspection on the intricate dynamics of family, grief, and societal influences in contemporary America.
