Amalgamated Bank of Chicago rebrands as ABOC

ABOC, formerly known as Amalgamated Bank of Chicago, has announced a significant rebranding effort in celebration of its 102nd anniversary.

The rebranding includes a new name, logo, and visual identity, aimed at modernizing the bank’s image while preserving its rich heritage. This transformation is intended to position ABOC for growth as a national banking leader, expanding its reach beyond the Chicago area.

Nick Weaver, ABOC’s president and chief operating officer, emphasized the bank’s commitment to communicating its strong foundation, profound trust, financial expertise, and personalized service. “Through this rebranding, we will re-energize the bank, re-introduce it to the Chicago area, and position its capabilities to new customers in other markets, starting with St. Louis,” Weaver said.

The rebranding effort includes the adoption of a shorter, more user-friendly trade name and the introduction of the tagline “A Bank Built on a Strong Foundation.” The new logo features an interlocking hexagon, symbolizing a handshake, which highlights the close partnership ABOC shares with its clients and underscores its century-long success. In addition to the rebranding, ABOC aims to attract new union customers outside of Chicago by launching Union Protect Solutions. This initiative offers a range of services and products tailored to unions of all sizes, administered remotely without the need for a physical location. The expansion will begin in the St. Louis market later in 2024.

Despite the changing financial landscape since its founding, ABOC continues to meet the specific needs of unions and provide tailored commercial financing solutions, sophisticated treasury management tools, trust and investment services, and personal banking options. Weaver expressed confidence in ABOC’s ability to compete in the increasingly crowded financial services industry. “We’re confident in our ability to distinguish ourselves from our peers with our history, knowledge, expertise, relationships, and banking services,” he said.

The rebranding marks a new chapter for ABOC, as it aims to leverage its digital, growth-oriented approach to reach new markets and customers across the nation.
