Allstate leaves Leo Burnett after 60 years for Droga5

Following a review, Northbrook-based Allstate has tapped New York agency Droga5 to lead its creative account. Allstate had been a client of Leo Burnett’s for 60 years, calling the agency its AOR as late as 2018.

However, the insurance giant cut ties with the Publicis Groupe shop several months ago after moving much of the creative internally. The Wacker Drive agency had given birth to the iconic tagline, “You’re in good hands,” as well as successful campaigns featuring 24′s Dennis Haysbert and 30 Rock’s Dean Winters as the insufferable Mayhem.

However, the most recent Mayhem work, featuring Tina Fey and Winters was created by the insurer’s internal agency and 72andSunny.

Last year, the insurer began staffing its in-house agency with the hire of former Ogilvy creative  David Hernandez.  Elizabeth Brady, Allstate’s chief marketing officer who joined the company in 2018, came from Kohler.

A spokeswoman for Allstate told Ad Age, who first broke the story, that the company works “with several respected agencies” but did not answer when asked if that list includes Leo Burnett.

Droga5 has been on a winning streak as of late. The agency has won advertising accounts for Maserati this week and  Equinox.

Allstate’s move follows a disturbing trend of large Illinois – or Chicago-based accounts looking beyond its borders for creative guidance, including McDonald’s and State Farm.
