Empire‘s Taraji P. Henson, a vocal advocate for addressing pay disparity in Hollywood, disclosed that she fired her entire team for failing to capitalize on the success of her immensely popular character, Cookie, from the Empire series.
In an interview with the SAG-AFTRA Foundation, Henson criticized her former team for neglecting to build upon the success of the beloved Cookie character. When asked about her most impactful business move as an actress, Henson explained that her team suggested leading another show centered around Cookie, a proposition she was open to if executed properly.
“All they wanted was another Cookie show, and I said, ‘I’ll do it, but it has to be right. The people deserve, she’s too beloved for y’all to f—k it up.’ And so, when they didn’t get it right, I was like, ‘Well, that’s it,’ and they had nothing else. ‘You’re all f—kin’ fired.”
Henson said, “Cookie was at the top of the fashion game. Where is my endorsement? What did you have set up for after this? That’s why you all haven’t seen me in so long. They had nothing set up.”
After hearing that Henson fired her entire team for poorly managing her potential, 50 Cent says he wants to work with her.
The rapper’s Instagram post was captioned, “They dropped the ball. F**k ‘em. I’m ready to work. Let’s get it!”
Hopefully we’ll be seeing Taraji P Henson back in Chicago in Power Book IV: Force.
