Women in Film Chicago is launching the largest sponsorship drive in its 35 year history, with the goal of helping women working in the visual media industry pursue their career dreams.
The drive to raise $115,000 “to begin this amazing journey” of advancement, says new board president Carrie Hunter, starts Thursday, Aug. 13, with a meeting at Conspiracy, the new post/production house in the West Loop, where Hunter is a partner and director of client relations.
In a letter to members, Hunter said she was confident “WIFC can even greater resource to our members … and the sponsorship drive is a catalyst to propel the dreams of women in our industry forward.”
Plans to achieve career-advancing goals include helping to financially support education and provide childcare if needed to take those classes, help a member bring her dreams of seeing her screenplay come to life though grants, and to advance and grow women-owned businesses within our industry.
“I have no doubt that, with Chicago’s support, we will reach our $115,000 goal and beyond,” Hunter said. “These funds will enable WIFC to continue its networking events … and (provide new and wider ways) to give greater opportunities to women within our industry.”
To encourage sponsorships and new member enrollment, WIFC offers a 20% discount during the month of August. General membership is $125 annually and you can sign up here.
The meeting will be held on the rooftop of Conspiracy at 170 N. Sangamon, from 5-8 p.m.; refreshments will be served. Tickets, members complimentary, non-members $10, may be purchased here.
