Who’s in and Who’s out on Chicago Med for Season 8

When we last left our healthcare heroes in season 7’s finale And Now We Come to the End, we were left wondering which of our favorites would be returning for Season 8.

Who might not return, and which, if any, newly introduced characters will be back for the season premiere on September 21?

Here’s our rundown of who’s in and who’s out on Chicago Med:

Dr. Will Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss) is IN! He signed a multi-year contract in 2021 to secure his role for at least 2 more seasons.

Ethan Choi (Brian Tee) is IN! Tee also signed a multi-year contract in 2021 and will be returning for season 8

Dr. Crockett Marcel (Dominic Rains) is IN as far as we know. Rains was not included with the original cast when the bulk of them signed new contracts in 2021. There has been no official word regarding the length of his current contract or any new contract negotiations.

Maggie Lockwood (Marlyne Barrett) is IN! It was just announced by Deadline that she inked a multi-year deal and she will be joining her original castmates for the next few seasons.

Dr. Dylan Scott (Guy Lockard) is IN as far as we know. Guy Lockard was added as a series regular in season 7 so we see no reason for him to be exiting the series any time soon.

Dr. Hannah Asher (Jessy Schram) is IN as far as we know. Schram returned to Med in season 7 after a long hiatus since season 5 so her character could recover from her heroin addiction. We know for sure that she will be returning for season 8, but not how long she will remain as a cast member at this time.

Sharon Goodwin (S. Epatha Merkerson) is IN! Merkerson was also included with the core original cast in 2021 and secured her character’s position as Chief of Patient and Medical Services at Chicago Med.

Dr. Daniel Charles (Oliver Platt) is IN! Rest assured Dr. Charles will remain at Chicago Med for the foreseeable future. Along with S. Epatha Merkerson, Nick Gehlfuss and Brian Tee, Platt signed his multi-year deal in 2021.

Dr. Dean Archer (Steven Weber) is IN! Weber re-upped his one-year contract with Chicago Med after becoming a series regular in season 7.

Dr. Pamela Blake (Sarah Rafferty) is in for the time being. We expect her to return in order to resolve her storyline after the results of her surgery were not what anyone expected. Luckily she didn’t die nor was she transferred to another facility so it is safe to assume she will return in season 8.

Avery Quinn’s (Johanna Braddy) return is unknown. Season 7 introduced Johanna Braddy as Pamela’s daughter Avery Quinn. It is unknown if she will be returning for season 8.

Dr. Vanessa Taylor (Asjha Cooper) is IN! Between confirming her relationship with her mom and being introduced to her biological dad, Vanessa still has a story to be told. We expect her to return in season 8.

Dr. Richardson (Nora Dunn)’s status with Chicago Med is unknown at this time. Dr. Richardson is Dr. Charles’ former therapist who stepped down as his therapist of several years after developing feelings for him. Her character was introduced in season 7 and it might be interesting to see Dr. Charles explore a romantic storyline in season 8. At this time we don’t know if Dunn will be returning for season 8.

As we get closer to the season 8 premiere, the casting might continue to shuffle and Reel Chicago will continue to update One Chicago fans.
