“Weather Man” writer will direct his first feature “Quebec” for Weinstein Company here next spring

Steve Conrad, the local writer of “The Weather Man,” signed with the Weinstein Company to direct his first feature here next spring, for an estimated $6 million budget.

Sean William Scott (“The Dukes of Hazzard”) will co-star in the comedy about the cutthroat competition between two friends for a promotion to grocery store manager.

Steven A. Jones (“Drunkboat”) and Jessica Borsiczky (“Revelations”) are producing for Weinstein Co., the new outfit launched by former Miramax heads Harvey and Bob Weinstein this fall.

It’s a big year for Conrad. His script “The Pursuit of Happyness” is in production for Columbia with Will Smith and son Jaden Smith starring. Brad Pitt is in talks to star in another Conrad-scripted picture, “Chad Schmidt,” for Sony.

ReelChicago talked with Conrad the day after the “Quebec” deal was announced, days after “The Weather Man” opened.
