Visions Blu Institute has won the Best General Not-for-Profit in Online category at the 45th Annual Telly Awards, for their short film Imminent Checkmate.
Imminent Checkmate is a silent film directed, written, and produced by Karon Hamlet, with Monoleto Wilborn as producer and first assistant director, Patrick Charles as director of photography, and Josh Zarbaugh as editor. The film features a diverse cast of Black males of various ages and was created with local actors and predominantly local crew members.
The mission of Visions Blu Institute is to nurture business-savvy content creators who can redefine African American narratives and foster cultural pride. By presenting a variety of perspectives, the institute seeks to inspire hope and drive positive change.
As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, Visions Blu Institute aims to counteract the pervasive negative portrayals of African Americans by providing a platform for positive and authentic expression. The institute empowers content creators through film production, podcasts, mentorship programs, and workshops to develop and share uplifting narratives.

The Telly Awards celebrate exceptional video and television content across all screens and are judged by leading professionals from video platforms, television, streaming services, and production companies.
This year’s Telly Awards saw nearly 13,000 entries from top video and television content producers worldwide, making it a record-breaking year for the competition.
