Michael Markowski and his DV camera became such a fixture at local protests in the past few years that rumors started flying among activists that Markowski was spying for the government.
“The man in this photo is an undercover police officer whom [sic] conducts surveillance on protestors in Chicago,” one anonymous blogger proclaimed below a shot of Markowski on chicago.indymedia.org.
“All these people were talking about who they thought I was,” Markowski said. “To be accused of being something I’m not was hard for me. A couple people found out where I live and were pounding on my door.”
