Video production, distribution expansion for Oak Brook-based Sonic Wave record label

Record label Sonic Wave International cements its expansion into visual media with the completion of its first documentary, “Ancient India Today,” being shopped to the Travel Channel and Discovery.

Label president Anand Bhatt said Sonic Wave is negotiating to acquire video rights to a number of independent horror and dramatic features and documentaries, and are looking to amass an international roster of filmmakers for the label.

Sonic Wave’s move into film and video production began in the late ?90s with its acquisition of L.A.’s Marathon Productions.

“Marathon was initially acquired to facilitate our production of music videos for Sonic Wave artists,” Bhatt noted. “It was working on many cable film projects and straight-to-DVD releases, which also provided us with the ability to include Sonic Wave music in soundtracks. We soon realized that we could release DVDs through our already well-established distribution network to stores such as Best Buy, Tower and FYE.”

Bhatt formed Sonic Wave through the merger of Candlelight Productions and ABYSS Records. The label features a mix of hard rock acts like Black Zodiac and Metal Militia and international artists like Indian musician Pralay, the subject of the recent Indian theatrical release “Paanch.”

Sonic Wave carries two of Bhatt’s own bands, the “hardcore tribal” group Anand Clique and industrial outfit Project 44. Bhatt scored a number of adult films in the late ’90s for Playboy and Vivid Video, most prominently the soundtrack to “Conflict,” a collaboration with Jim Martin of hard rock icons Faith No More, released on CD by Sonic Wave, an unusual distinction in the adult film industry.

Sonic Wave is at 415 S. Maple, Oak Brook. Call 708/445-8373 or see www.sonicwaveintl.com.
