Update on Ironheart series about to film in Chicago

We will begin to see the Marvel series, Ironheart AKA Wise Guy, around town very soon.

The Iron Man spin-off was first announced in December 2020 as one of the many new MCU series that are in development.

The much anticipated series began filming in mid June at its Marvel home-base in Atlanta, the chosen filming location for Marvel Cinematic Universe heroes ever since Pinewood Atlanta Studios opened in Fayetteville in 2014.

We have confirmation that the production will be seen in town for 10 days (7 days of filming) under the name of Wise Guy from Tuesday late evening October 24th through November 3. Crews will be filming on south side neighborhood streets, the near north side and in downtown Chicago.

Happy to report that two women of color will rotate directing the 12 episodes. Chicago native Samantha Bailey (Brown Girls, East of La Brea, Dear White People) and Angela Barnes (Atlanta, Blindspotting, Teenage Bounty Hunters.)

The Chicago portion of filming is expected to reveal the backstory of main character Riri Williams (Dominique Thorne.) The storyline follows the character Riri, a young black woman from the south side of Chicago. Riri is an MIT engineer with a genius IQ, who builds her own Iron Man armor. We got our first glimpse of the character Riri Williams in two Wakanda Forever trailers as she builds that first suit and gets her technology right.

As Reel Chicago reported earlier, the show also was briefly in Chicago for a few days of filming in early July. Check back for further updates.
