UnScarred doc about tattooed scars holds virtual art show

Unscared

The feature length documentary, UnScarred announced that it will host a virtual art show on Friday, April 9 at 7 p.m. on Facebook Live.  The art show aims to increase awareness about the film while also raising funds for completion of the ongoing project, which is expected to be completed in the fall of 2021.

UnScarred tells the story of survivors who are physically scarred through trauma or illness who, despite cultural stigmas or religious traditions, reclaim their bodies through the art of tattoo. The film features scarred survivors of cancer, paralysis, gender reassignment, rare medical conditions, and abuse. The film also sheds light on issues of mental health and self-identity through the stories of people fighting to take back control of their bodies.

Elise Jaffe, Director, UnScarred

The director, Elise Jaffe is the Owner and Executive Producer of Big Teeth Productions a creative film and animation company in the Ravenswood neighborhood in Chicago. She has worked in Broadcast and Content Marketing/Advertising for over two decades. UnScarred is her first documentary film that she will serve as the Director.

“This film has such an inclusive message and has the potential to inspire so many people because being comfortable in your own skin transcends all races, ethnicities, ages and genders,” said Elise Jaffe, the director for UnScarred.  “I’m so excited to feature the artists who are the catalyst for transformation in the lives of our survivors and to share the work of not only the artists from the film but so many other supporters of our grassroots project.”

The Art Show will be an inspirational event for anyone interested in the transformative power of art.  The virtual art show will include:

  • Artwork from around the world, which will be available for purchase.
  • A panel of tattoo artists, including Chicago-based artists David Allen and Dawn Grace, plus Eric Catalano and Stacie-Rae Weir, who will talk about their careers tattooing over scars and helping survivors find healing.
  • Performances from Comedian Al Jackson and Broadway Actor Robert Anthony Jones
  • Award winning documentary filmmaker Christian Taylor will emcee the event.
