Tyler Perry is making a significant investment in the future of filmmaking, announcing a multi-year partnership with Synapse Virtual Production to build and operate a new virtual production soundstage at its Atlanta studio campus.

Expected to be operational by the end of 2026, the new stage will feature a large-scale Extended-J LED volume measuring approximately 74 feet wide by 23 feet high, with nearly 196 linear feet of LED walls designed to display photorealistic digital environments in real time. The facility will support feature films, television series, commercials and other productions.

Unlike traditional green screen workflows, virtual production enables filmmakers to capture digital environments in camera during principal photography, allowing cinematographers, directors and visual effects teams to see final-quality backgrounds on set. The technology also provides greater creative control over lighting, reflections and camera movement while streamlining many visual effects workflows.

Under the agreement, Synapse Virtual Production will oversee the operation of the stage while providing a full suite of services, including virtual art department support, Unreal Engine workflows, camera tracking and on-set technical operations. The soundstage will be available for both Tyler Perry Studios productions and outside clients.

The announcement underscores the growing role virtual production is playing across the entertainment industry as studios continue investing in technology that blends practical filmmaking with real-time digital environments. Once viewed as an emerging tool, LED volume stages have become an increasingly common part of production pipelines for feature films, episodic television and commercial work.
