Tyler Jay’s Tandem bows with nice chunk of work

Tyler Jay of Tandem

Starting in June shortly after leaving Jerry Rig, Tris3ct’s production/post facility, Tyler Jay has produced and directed three major projects under the Tandem banner of his new full-service company.

“Everything has been going fast and furiously and I’m having a fun time doing it,” says Jay, a 15-year veteran of agency producing and commercial directing, who’s working out of office space on the 41st floor of the Hancock Building.

“Tandem’s goal,” Jay says, “is to be the premiere content provider in the Midwest and also help with creative.  We say, we choose to take on partners and not clients and enjoy the journey together.”

While his other goal is to grow space and staff, he’s presently working with “a really-deep roster of unbelievable freelancers” to accommodate a steady flow of business.

Tandem’s first assignment barely after it opened was an AT&T spot for Fleishman-Hillard, the St. Louis-based PR firm – a four-day shoot in Chicago.  “It was a great way to start off my business,” he says.

Next up was anl assignment as a freelance director  from Native Pictures to helm a commercial for its direct client, Match.com, that starred TV host and author Steve Harvey and  in Atlanta where Harvey also has an office.

Currently in production at Tandem is producing PSAs for Northwestern University.

That’s a good chunk of business for a company not quite two months old. But it shouldn’t come as a surprise for Jay, who’d been a producer at Burnett a senior producer at Draftfcb and executive producer/director of content creation at Tris3ct.

Jay built Tris3ct’s broadcast department from the ground up and also created and ran Jerry Rig Productions, a production/post facility that quickly snowballed into a production service used by other agencies.

Agency clients included Critical Mass, HYConnect, and Fathom Communications as B2B clients such as Grub Hub, Deloitte, United Center, Two Brothers Brewery, and Defy Bags.

Of his three-and-a-half years at Jerry Rig, Jay says “I had a great run and worked with good people there.”

Tandem’s website, tandeminc.co,  is up-and running and Jay can be reached at 310/721-8003.
