Two features and a film festival for Grand Rapids

West Michigan will bustle with filming activity this summer, says West Michigan film commissioner Rick Hert, with two indie features filming in Grand Rapids in July and August.

Then, the first Grand Rapids Film Festival films takes place August 26-28, whose goal is to show films that “challenge, inspire and tell a great story,” said festival cofounder Corey Niemchick.

Grand Rapids and nearby small town Lowell are locations for the sci-fi thriller, “Genesis Code,” which starts shooting the end of July. Declan O’Brien is the writer/director, Phillip J. Roth, producer. Stars are Renee O’Connor (“Ghost Town: The Movie”) and Tim DeKay (“Get Smart”).
