Two Chicago series make Rolling Stone’s 10 Best of 2023

The Rolling Stone posted its 10 Best TV Shows of 2023 and two Chicago series are included in the list.

Considering the number of critically acclaimed series that are currently being filmed in Chicago, it comes as no surprise that 2 of the 10 picks are Chicago Made.

The Rolling Stone’s TV critic Alan Sepinwall’s has sifted through the mountain of broadcast and streaming shows and here’s his picks for the best shows of the year.

Chicago Made

Somebody Somewhere — preparing for Season 3 — in a show about two former high school classmates, now 40-something and wondering why they are still in their rural town with not much to do. And yet, a story about nothing fills the time slot with humor, angst and trending topics that are rarely considered when thinking about small town life. The show is tender, warmhearted, and funny, as it grapples with loss and fear of change.

The Bear — also preparing for Season 3 — in the story of a young chef from the fine dining world who returns to Chicago to run his deceased brother’s sandwich shop. Stir in a dash of humor, an abundance of tension and a cast of seasoned characters. It’s a little about food and a lot about the people who make it.

Here’s the complete list:

9. Somebody Somewhere (HBO)
8. Cunk on Earth (Netflix)
