Toronto Festival debut for TicTock’s first feature

“What’s Wrong with Virginia,” the first feature produced by TicTock Studios of Holland, Mich. last year and shot on many West Michigan locations, will have its world premiere at the 35th annual Toronto International Film Festival Sept. 15.

It will screen as one of the 18 “Special Presentations,” a category shared with premieres of Woody Allen’s “You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger” and Clint Eastwood’s “Hereafter.”

“Virginia” marks the directorial debut of 2009 Academy Award winning screenwriter, Dustin Lance Black (“Milk”).

It stars Oscar-winner Jennifer Connelly in the title role, as a charming, yet mentally ill mother whose greatest love is her protector and illegitimate son, Emmett (Australian newcomer Harrison Gilbertson).

But her longest love belongs to the local-married-Mormon Sheriff, Richard Tipton (Ed Harris), who is running for public office and might very well be Emmett’s father.

Amy Madigan, Harris’ real-life wife, and Emma Roberts co-star.
