Top creatives give ad students book reviews

The sold-out June 11 Portfolio Night 7 in Chicago ? best described as “speed dating” for advertising students and agency creative directors ? will be one of 22 such events taking place simultaneously in 22 cities throughout the world that night.

Coordinated by GERTRUDE, the boutique agency headed by Otis Gibson, Portfolio Night 7 will be held at the Relaxed Lounge, 1450 W. Chicago.

The copy and art portfolios of 100 students from Northwestern, the Art Institute, the Portfolio School and other colleges will be reviewed and critiqued by 30 A-list agency and boutique creative executives and consultants and four editorial house creatives.

Each student will spend 15-minutes with four different creative directors during the course of the evening, 5:30 to 9:30 p.m.

“The idea is to give the students feedback and landing a job off a book would be a tremendous bonus,” Gibson noted. “Last year I was one of the CDs reviewing portfolios and I hired a student whose book was great.”

All 100 student spots, at $40 each, have been sold out for weeks, but Gibson said adpeople are invited to observe and stay for post-PN7 drinks and “small bites” prepared by special guest Dale Levitski of “Top Chef” fame.
