
Chicago Music Director, Tony Russell has been honored with an Emmy Award for Outstanding Music Direction for his leadership on this year’s Super Bowl Halftime Show, recognizing his exceptional vision, arrangement, and live performance oversight on one of the world’s most-watched stages.
Russell belted out “This is for Chicago” during his acceptance speech at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards this past Sunday at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles.

Tony Russell is an award-winning music director, producer, and arranger known for large-scale live broadcasts, televised specials, and arena tours. For the past decade, he has been working and touring with Grammy Award Winning Artist Kendrick Lamar. Tony’s credits include working with Lady Gaga, Jay Z, Jamie Foxx, Yolanda Adams and a list of others.
As Co-Music Director, Russell and Grammy Award Winning Rapper Kendrick Lamar led the show’s complete musical arc, from concept and medley design to orchestration, rehearsal process, and live execution, ensuring seamless transitions, elevated vocals, and dynamic band performance befitting a global broadcast.
