Tom Fletcher invited to join ASC

With his acceptance into the prestigious American Society of Cinematographers (ASC), Tom Fletcher has become ASC’s only Midwest-based associate member.

Fletcher, the owner/VP marketing for 21-year old Fletcher Camera, was nominated by member/cinematographers Robert Primes, ASC, Adam Kane, ASC and George Spiro Dibie, ASC.

“Our best associate members are those who love the art form more than the bottom line,” says Primes. “Tom’s personal warmth, energy and tireless dedication to giving cinematographers the best possible support have convinced me that he will be an active and invaluable member of the ASC.”

“It’s a very huge honor,” said Fletcher as he joins more than 340 active and associate ASC members.

They include those with ties to Chicago, such as Steven Poster, ASC, former ASC president and current president of International Cinematographers Guild, Local 600, Michael Goi, ASC; Bill Butler, ASC, Haskell Wexler, ASC and the late Victor Duncan, ASC.

Membership by invitation-only into the ASC, the oldest motion-picture society in the world, is considered “a mark of honor and distinction based on merit.”

After the candidate has received three nominations from members, the nomination is reviewed by the full ASC board. Upon their approval, based on the candidate’s significant contributions to the art and craft of motion pictures, the entire membership is then asked to vote on accepting the candidate.

In nominating Fletcher, Primes noted his contributions through Fletcher Camera is “a model of quality, service and integrity.”
