To those we have lost in 2023

The vibrant tapestry of Chicago’s production community has dimmed once again with the loss of several luminaries during 2023, leaving an indelible mark on the city’s rich legacy in film and television.

As we reflect on the those who once graced the bustling streets and soundstages, we pay tribute to their contributions, the magic they brought to the screen and the city, and the impact they had on the local entertainment landscape.

Andre Braugher, a commanding talent, bids farewell to Chicago, leaving behind a formidable presence that enriched both stage and screen. Known for his Emmy-winning role in “Homicide: Life on the Street” and later captivating audiences in “Brooklyn Nine-Nine,” Braugher’s powerful performances resonated far beyond the city limits, leaving an enduring legacy in the hearts of fans and fellow actors alike.

Alan Arkin, a true cinematic legend, is mourned by the city. His career, spanning over six decades, included memorable roles in classics like The In-Laws and Little Miss Sunshine. Arkin’s versatility and unmatched talent were instrumental in shaping the landscape of Chicago through Second City.

Then there was Chicagoan, Raquel Welch. An iconic figure whose presence graced the silver screen for generations, Welch’s impact transcended eras, making her an eternal part of the city’s cinematic history.

Archie Fletcher of Fletcher’s Camera was a behind-the-scenes maestro, remembered by the city’s production community. Archie’s expertise and commitment played a pivotal role in bringing countless projects to life. His legacy lives on not only in the equipment he provided but also in the countless stories captured through the lens of his contributions.

As we bid farewell to these pillars of Chicago’s production community, we acknowledge the void left by their absence. Their creativity, passion, and dedication have shaped the narrative of our city’s entertainment landscape. In honoring their memory, we celebrate the enduring impact they had on Chicago’s cinematic legacy and the countless lives they touched throughout their remarkable careers.
