A new TikTok video from the set of Chicago Fire appears to have answered one of the biggest questions hanging over Season 15: Kelly Severide is staying at Firehouse 51.
Taylor Kinney was recently spotted during an on-location shoot wearing Severide’s familiar Squad 3 gear, including his Squad 3 hat and full firefighting uniform. The footage strongly suggests that Severide will remain with the CFD and continue leading Squad rather than leave the firehouse for a permanent position with the Office of Fire Investigation.
That decision has been a major question since the Season 14 finale.
Before Firehouse 51 was rocked by a massive explosion, Severide revealed that he had made a decision about his future. He had been weighing whether to remain at 51 or move more fully into OFI, where his talent for arson investigation has increasingly pulled him away from day-to-day firefighting.
The finale never revealed his choice.
Then came the TikTok.
Kinney’s appearance in full Squad 3 gear is about as close to a confirmation as fans can get without NBC officially announcing the storyline. If Severide had permanently moved to OFI, there would be little reason for him to be suited up as the leader of Squad 3 during Season 15 filming.
The sighting also lines up with other evidence that Severide’s role at the firehouse may actually be expanding.
Set photos shared during production have shown Kinney wearing clothing featuring captain’s bugles, fueling speculation that Severide has been promoted as Firehouse 51 enters another period of major transition. Fan discussion around those images began circulating in late August.
The timing would make sense.
Season 15 is already shaping up to be another season of change at 51. Dermot Mulroney, who joined the series as Chief Dom Pascal, is expected to wrap his storyline early in the season, while additional departures and new arrivals are reshaping the firehouse roster.

Severide becoming an even more central leader within 51 would provide some stability during that turnover.
It would also keep one of Chicago Fire’s longest-running characters exactly where many viewers want him.
Kinney has played Severide since the series premiered in 2012, making him one of the remaining original anchors of the NBC drama. His character has evolved from the swaggering lieutenant introduced in Season 1 into one of the most experienced and respected firefighters at 51.
His fascination with fire investigation has become an increasingly important part of the character, however, and the possibility of Severide moving permanently to OFI has repeatedly surfaced.
Season 14 pushed that conflict directly to the forefront.
By the finale, Severide appeared ready to choose between continuing his life with Squad 3 or following his growing passion for investigating fires. TV Insider noted during the hiatus that Severide had already claimed to have made his choice before the finale’s catastrophic call interrupted everything.
Now, unless Chicago Fire is pulling off one very elaborate piece of misdirection, fans seem to have their answer.
Severide is still wearing the Squad 3 helmet.
And Firehouse 51 still has Kelly Severide.
