Created by Lena Waithe, The Chi has spent nearly a decade telling stories rooted in Chicago, not as a backdrop but as a living, breathing character. The series has followed families, friendships, rivalries and communities through cycles of grief, ambition, violence and resilience, all while keeping the South Side at the center of its emotional world.
The eighth and final season continues Friday, July 17, on Paramount+ with the Premium Plan, as Episode 9, titled “Cold Feet,” sets the stage for the series finale. With only two episodes left, the pressure is mounting across nearly every corner of the story, and the show appears ready to make good on its warning that no one is safe.
No official synopsis has been released for “Cold Feet,” but the title alone suggests hesitation, fear and last-minute reversals as multiple characters face decisions that could define how their stories end. Watch below:
That makes the final stretch feel especially significant for Chicago audiences. Few long-running dramas have given the city this much space to be complicated, wounded, funny, political and deeply human.
Episode 8, “Cold Hearted,” shifted the season toward a more emotional reckoning. Victor, Reg and Jake were brought back together after the death of their mother, giving Reg a rare chance to reveal a more vulnerable side. Shaad found himself on the verge of a more stable future as a full-time counselor, while Bakari made plans to leave Chicago for Atlanta with his sister and Lynnae.

But the biggest pressure point may be Tiff.
Bakari quietly steered Detective Toussaint toward her while questions continued to swirl around Nuck’s death. By the end of the episode, Toussaint had confronted Tiff and advised her to get a lawyer, leaving her boxed in as the series moves toward its final two hours.
Emmett is also carrying a dangerous secret. He remains torn over whether to tell Kiesha the truth about Nuck’s death before their wedding or continue living with the lie. That choice could become one of the most consequential emotional turns of the finale.
The penultimate episode arrives on Paramount+ at midnight PT/3 a.m. ET on July 17. SHOWTIME viewers will have to wait until Sunday, July 19. The season is only available to Paramount+ Premium subscribers.
For Chicago, the closing of The Chi marks more than the end of another series. It is the end of a show that gave the city’s South Side rare sustained visibility and built a world where its characters were allowed to be messy, ambitious, loving, dangerous and alive.
