TicTock studio holds second Michigan film set training; converting factory into sound stages

Due to the huge interest and number of calls received about the film set instruction provided by TicTock Studios of Holland, Michigan, a second “Basic Film Set Training” course is being held now through June 7.

Former Castle Rock Entertainment VP, Jeffrey Stott, will again lead instruction of the two-week course, with Jim Behnke, also of Los Angeles, a well known feature film /TV series’ production manager.

The two-week classes will be held at the Grand Rapids Community College Lakeshore Campus. They are offered as part of the MichiganWorks! Program in connection with the No Worker Left Behind initiative of Gov. Jennifer Granholm.

Classes are open to anyone, but the emphasis is placed on redirecting skills of unemployed Michigan workers to fit jobs the Michigan Film Incentives are bringing to the state.

The training being provided could ultimately result into real jobs what will be TicTock Studio’s filming complex.

The company recently bought the 76,000- sq.ft. Reddi-Wip factory in Holland two weeks after it closed down, and is converting it to sound stages.

CEO Hopwood DePree formed TicTock Studios in mid-2006 with former studio executive Rebecca Green. Earlier this year they invited producer Stott (“The Bucket List,” “The Omen”) to join the TicTock team to advance filming in Michigan.

Thirty people graduated from the first session, held April 13. Of those, 13 moved onto the second session, “Introduction to Technical Labor: The Film Grip,” taught by Chicago’s Dennis de la Mata.
