The Music Box Theatre reopens this Friday with ‘Noir City: Chicago’

For nearly 95 years, the Music Box Theatre has been a haven for countless passionate moviegoers, providing unique programming 365 days a year. The recent renovation is complete. With just a few days of work left in the REVIVE AT 95 project. The Music Box reopens with new seats, improved lighting, new carpeting, and touched up proscenium arch.

The main auditorium reopens this Friday with NOIR CITY: CHICAGO! From September 6th-12th, the Music Box & the Film Noir Foundation present a week of classic film noir from around the world on the big screen!

Hosted by Eddie Muller, FNF founder and host of TCM’s Noir Alley, and FNF board member Alan K. Rode, author of Michael Curtiz: A Life in Film, this year’s NOIR CITY is presented under the banner “Darkness Has No Borders”, featuring thematically linked double bills pairing foreign language films with movies made in the United States and United Kingdom.

NOIR CITY kicks off on Friday at 7pm, with the forbidden love classic THE POSTMAN ALWAYS RINGS TWICE, starring noir heavyweights Lana Turner & John Garfield, and presented on 35MM. Then at 9:45pm, from Italy comes the gritty and erotic OSSESSIONE, the first acclaimed work of Italian neorealism.

On Saturday night, catch the rarely-screened THE WINDOW presented in 35MM, followed by a New Restoration of the Argentinian anthology NEVER OPEN THAT DOOR.

The action jumps off the screen with two 3D Noir screenings – The gripping thrillers INFERNO starring Robert Ryan on Tuesday Sept 10th, and MAN IN THE DARK starring Edmond O’Brien on Wednesday Sept 11th. Presented on the Music Box’s new Digital 3D system!

Other highlights include a 35MM screening of THIS GUN FOR HIRE starring Alan Ladd & Veronica Lake, a New 4K Restoration of Jean-Pierre Melville’s LE SAMOURAI, a New Restoration of UNION STATION starring William Holden & Barry Fitzgerald, a 35MM screening of BLACK TUESDAY starring Edward G. Robinson, and the hypnotic French prison escape LE TROU.

We’re breaking in our new seats with the rousing widescreen musical SEVEN BRIDES FOR SEVEN BROTHERS! Presented in 35MM, this Saturday & Sunday at 11:30am. 

On Saturday night at 11:30pm, the Music Box is getting invaded by HUNDREDS OF BEAVERSGet Tickets Now for the silent supernatural epic comedy.

Opening this Friday, a man out for revenge teams up with a psychic in the gonzo supernatural comedy THE PARAGON, which is being called “A joyous oddity”(The Film Verdict) and “A surreal, faux ’80s ode to the likes of John Carpenter and Terry Gilliam” (Stuff Magazine).

Finally, from September 14th-29th we’re celebrating the 60th anniversary of our friends at The Chicago International Film Festival, with cinematic masterpieces from the Festival’s vaults in a series called BIG ART FILMS! These six films deserve to be seen with the full big screen experience, including Jane Campion’s THE PIANO, Paul Thomas Anderson’s PUNCH-DRUNK LOVE, Julie Dash’s DAUGHTERS OF THE DUST, and more!
