The Iron Claw, featuring Zac Efron and Jeremy Allen White (The Bear), gets the green light for promotional activities from striking SAG-AFTRA union.
The Iron Claw is centered around the Von Erich family, a dynasty of wrestlers from the 1960s that had enormous success, and popularized the iron claw wrestling hold.
SAG-AFTRA has granted an interim agreement for the film, allowing its stars to promote it worldwide before its wide release this holiday season.
Zac Efron and Jeremy Allen White take on the roles of Kevin and Kerry Von Erich, brothers who earned their place in the WWE Hall of Fame for their intense wrestling bouts during the ’80s and ’90s. The film is helmed by Sean Durkin, known for his work on Martha Marcy May Marlene, and it delves into a narrative that combines athletic prowess with the myriad personal tragedies faced within the Von Erich family, famously known as “the Von Erich curse.”
The cast is enriched with talent, including Harris Dickinson, Stanley Simons, Holt McCallany, Maura Tierney, and Lily James.
The Iron Claw is set to provide a unique cinematic experience on its release date of December 22, offering an alternative to Universal and Illumination’s animated comedy Migration. Following closely are major releases Aquaman 2 and the WB movie musical The Color Purple.
The film’s production is led by Tessa Ross, Juliette Howell, Angus Lamont from House Productions, Sean Durkin, and A24. Executive producers include Derrin Schlesinger, Harrison Huffman, Len Blavatnik, Danny Cohen, and Eva Yates.
The Iron Claw was developed in collaboration with House Productions and received support from Access Entertainment and BBC Film, who also co-financed the project. A24 plays a significant role as both a producer and financier. This film promises to be a thrilling addition to the world of sports dramas, with its stellar cast and dedicated production team.
