The Bear’s Ayo Edebiri walks the picket line with the WGA

The Writers Guild East and The Writers Guild West called for a strike last week against the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers after negotiations broke down. This is the first WGA strike since 2007-2008 which lasted 3 months and 8 days.

Most of Chicago’s shows, Chicago Fire, Chicago P.D., Chicago Med, The Bear, and Durango, have wrapped for the season. The Chi is on a short hiatus and The Emperor of Ocean Park series is schedule to begin filming in June.

Currently L.A. production has halted for many projects as WGA members and supporters have been picketing outside of major studios.

The Bear’s Ayo Edebiri has been spotted in Hollywood picketing with the WGA:

Edebiri isn’t just one of the stars of FX and Hulu’s breakout hit The Bear, she is also a comedian, writer, and producer. Before starring in The Bear as Sydney Adamu with Jeremy Allen White, who stars as Carmen “Carmy” Berzatto, she appeared on Comedy Central’s Up Next and co-hosted the podcast Iconography with Olivia Craighead. Edebiri is also known as a voice actor on Big Mouth where she voices Missy.

The Bear is about a classically trained, world renowned chef named Carmen ‘Carmy’ Berzatto (White) who takes over his deceased brother’s sandwich shop which was also a family business and all the excitement and drama that comes with it. The fictitious restaurant, The Original Beef of Chicagoland is based on Chicago’s iconic Mr. Beef.

In addition to Edebiri, The Bear writer Alex O’Keefe was also seen marching with the WGA. O’Keefe earlier reported that when the show was nominated for Best Comedy Series at the Writers Guild of America Awards in March, he attended the ceremony with a negative bank account and dressed in a bowtie purchased with credit.
