The Bear wins big at SAG and Producers Guild Awards

As Awards Season winds down, ending with the Academy Awards on March 12 and Emmy FYC Season kicks off, we can now see that FX’s The Bear and ABC’s Abbott Elementary will be on a collision course at Emmy time.

On Saturday night, The Bear won The Danny Thomas for Outstanding Producers of Episodic Television – Comedy, beating Abbott ElementaryBarryHacks and Only Murders in the Building. And Sunday night, lead Jeremy Allen White who plays  Carmen ‘Carmy’ Berzatto, won Male Actor in a Comedy Series during the 2023 SAG Awards.

“Ay, yi, yi,” Allen White began. “Thank you. Thank you. Thank. you. My god. This is from my peers. This is from actors. I love actors. This is what I do. I feel so lucky to be able to do it. Right now I’m working the show The Bear. It’s got a lot of heart. that is no accident. Chris Storer, Joanna Calo, JKohn Landgraf, the cast, the crew. Biggest hearts in the business and I really think that translates you know? I think that connects. And thank God for that. And to all of you who make things here that make me feel a little less lonely that makes me feel a little more connected more understood and a lot more understood and a lot more understanding I thank you so much. It’s why I love this. Ezer, Louis, Addison, you rock my world. Thank you guys. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.” Watch below:

Meanwhile, the cast of Abbott Elementary won Best Comedy Series Ensemble at SAG beating out Barry, The Bear, Hacks and Only Murders in the Building. The series also did extremely well at the NAACP Image Awards taking home six awards including best comedy series.

UPDATE: The Bear continued its Awards season winning streak by taking home the Motion Picture Sound Editors’ Golden Reel for Outstanding Achievement in Sound Editing – Broadcast Short Form. This was for the episode called, “The Review.”

The first season of The Bear has made a significant presence in the 2022 award season taking the following nominations and wins:

Season 2 is currently filming in Chicago. Filming is expected continue through April 14, 2023 to complete a total of 10 episodes.
