Texas’ gain is Illinois’ loss as Hudgins becomes Texas Film Commissioner Dec. 1

Former Illinois Film Office deputy director Bob Hudgins has left Chicago for Austin, Texas where he’ll start his new job as director of the Texas Film Commission Dec. 1.

He succeeds highly respected Tom Copeland, who retired in June after 22 years as TFC director.

Hudgins industry friends, dating back to when he was a locations scout, have bittersweet feelings over the news.

“I’m happy that he’s got such a great new job,” said first assistant director Jim Giovanetti, “but his leaving is a huge, huge loss for the film community.”
