The icons were Charlie the Tuna, Mr. Clean, and Count Chocula, old Calabash clients, Jolly Green Giant, Pillsbury Dough Boy, Vlasic Pickle Stork, Mr. Peanut and?for the first time in animation?Chef Boyardee and the Morton Salt Girl.

Calabash was recommended by the spot’s live action director, Kinka Usher of the House of Usher, who had previously worked with the Chicago shop on Twix spots.

Animation director Ed Newman led the Calabash staff augmented by 25-30 freelancers recruited locally and throughout the U.S. for the six week job that normally would’ve taken 12 to complete.
